This branch of Foyles, on London’s Charing Cross Road, is an immense sight. Spreading across 5 floors (the uppermost floor being home to the café), this shop holds over 200,000 different titles. Given enough time and the right advice there is bound to be something there for everyone.
This space is lit primarily by the large glass windows and panelling, which lets in the natural light creating a bright and cheerful feel to the shop. Quotes on the walls (such as the one below), also make a welcoming feeling for incoming book lovers.
The children’s section, which is located on the ground floor aims to make reading fun for the younger generation. The walls of this area are therefore painted with forest scenes (possibly to depict books such as Rudyard Kipling’s; The Jungle Books). The floor leading in, is painted with paw prints which children can follow to the magically decorated shelves of children’s books. Whilst your children browse the books they may also come across painted depictions of some of their favourite book characters including Wally; from the interactive books Where’s Wally.
Unfortunately I didn’t have time to explore all the floors of this shop, but maybe in the future I will. For any bookworm looking to kill some time in London, this might be the perfect place as you could easily spend several hours here.
