This weeks Post-apocalyptic Reads is with Suzanne Munshower, journalist and author of many books both fiction and non-fiction, including; recent fiction novel ‘Younger’ (Amazon UK/ Amazon US).

Suzanne Munshower’s Fallout 5:

1. Easter Parade by Richard Yates: This is probably my favourite book in the world. I read it every year and never tire of the insights into the lives of people who can’t manage to do what’s necessary to change, told in beautiful yet simple prose. (Amazon UK/ Amazon US)

2. The Big Sleep and Other Novels by Raymond Chandler: Three of the best novels from one of the all-time great mystery writers in a single volume makes a wonderful way to pass the time in the bunker! (Amazon UK/ Amazon US)

3. Gun, with Occasional Music by Jonathan Lethem: A futuristic noir, this early work by a popular author features a supporting cast of talking animals and is another book I never get tired of reading. It’s quirky, funny, weird and wonderful. (Amazon UK/ Amazon US)

4. The Rings of Saturn by W. G. Sebald: In my opinion, one of the great books of all time. Part memoir, part novel, with illustrations, the great writer’s philosophical meditation never ceases to move and astound me. (Amazon UK/ Amazon US)

5. Lost by Hans-Ulrich Treichel: A darkly comic novel about great loss, this very short novel is hard to put down and impossible to forget. (Amazon UK/ Amazon US)

You Suddenly have to run from the bunker, you can only save one book, which do you rescue?

It would be very hard to choose just one to run off with, but I think it would have to be the Chandler, for the simple reason that it’s three books in one.
