tigers in red weather A perfect summer read, Liza Klaussmann’s novel follows cousins; Nick and Helena and their families as they spend their summers at Tiger House.

A post-war novel which on the surface is the romantic story of Nick and her husband Hughes, soon begins to show cracks in the families happiness. Parties, drinks and Jazz music, cover an intricate web of secrets, spun by each character.

The book is broken up into 5 sections, each told through the eyes of one of the 5 main characters; Nick, Daisy (Nick’s daughter), Helena, Hughes and Ed (Helena’s son). The characters created by Klaussmann, reflect real life through their unique and different personalities. Cool, confident Nick, is juxtaposed with her naïve cousin. Whilst light-hearted, innocent Daisy, is juxtaposed with her cousin Ed, a darker more complex character.

The only downside to this book is the non chronological telling of events, that jump about a little in time, due the each new character starting their story. However changes in time frame are highlighted by the author at the beginning of each chapter which begins with the date.
