Orwell’s story follows a farm of animals who rebel against the humans and take the farm for themselves. The animals then have to fend for themselves including working the farm, harvesting the crops and dividing up the food.
The revolution creates what the animals hope will be a more equal communist society where all animals are to be equal. However things do not go to plan and it becomes clear that some animals are ‘more equal than others’.
Orwell’s book very cleverly depicts Marxist views of capitalism including ideas such as inequality, false consciousness and exploitation. For this reason I would recommend this book to anyone interested in or studying sociology as it offers an interesting insight.
Orwell’s novel is well written, clever and captivating. Classic and thought provoking. A book that you will struggle to put down.
